Short Description
The Volcanology and Geothermal Lab is still a newly established Lab and is located on the 4th Floor of the Research Building and Energy Museum, FTTM. To improve service and quality in the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, additional supporting human resources such as Technicians/Operators and Administrative Persons in Charge are urgently needed, which have not been fulfilled so far. Even so, research activities have been/are ongoing, especially for the work on Final Project/S1, Thesis/S2 and Dissertation/S3 which take topics related to the Volcanology and Geothermal Lab. Collaboration on research on volcanoes from volcano studies has been/is going well with national universities/institutions such as the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) and Gadjah Mada University; and international universities/institutions such as IRD France, Chambery University and others who are members of the DOMERAPI research consortium for monitoring and understanding the subsurface structure of Mount Merapi where we installed 46 seismometer stations. For research in the geothermal field, international research collaboration with GFZ Potsdam Germany and PT Star Energy Geothermal Wayang Windu, where micro-earthquake monitoring has been/is being carried out to understand fracture processes and subsurface seismic structures. In the future, the addition of geophysical instrumentation for the Volcanology and Geothermal Lab is urgently needed, such as seismometers for monitoring seismicity, GPS deformation measurements and simulation tools for the spread of lava during eruptions.
