Short Description
The Mining Environment Laboratory is one of the laboratories under the Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering which supports educational and research activities in Mining Engineering Research Group, Mining Engineering Study Program, Bandung Institute of Technology. This laboratory consists of:
1. Mining Environment Laboratory (Location: LABTEK IVA – West Mine Floor 1))
The Mining Environmental Laboratory is a laboratory for practicum supporting education and research related to the identification of potential environmental pollution and methods for preventing and handling it.
With the development of the CoRE (Center of Research Excellence) program as a research center by FTTM-ITB, there are additional facilities in the form of a Laboratory room in the CoRE Building Floor 8 (Center of Research Excellence – Mine Closure and Mine Environment). There is use of shared facilities between the Mining Environment Laboratory and CoRE Mine Closure and Mine Environment. It is hoped that in the future, CoRE Mine Closure and Mine Environment can become a national-level mining environment research center that can not only be used by the ITB academic community, but also by researchers from all over Indonesia.
2. Mine Ventilation Laboratory (Location: LABTEK IVA – East Mine Floor 1)
The Mining Environment Laboratory is a laboratory for practicum supporting education and research related to the identification of potential environmental pollution in underground mines along with methods for preventing and handling them.
There is the use of shared facilities between the Mine Ventilation Laboratory and the Center of Research Excellence (CoRE) in Underground Mining and Mining Safety (UMMS). The Center of Research Excellence (CoRE) in Underground Mining and Mining Safety (UMMS) is one form of ITB’s contribution in responding to the nation’s problems in the mining sector. The UMMS CoRE is focused on research on Underground Mining and Mining Safety. The UMMS CoRE is expected to become a research center that has good equipment and access to cooperation with the government and the mining industry, so that research can be carried out by researchers throughout Indonesia which in the end the principles of good mining in Indonesia specifically and in the world in general can be applied.
Research and Education Activities carried out by the Mining Environment Laboratory:
Courses related to education and research conducted at the Mining Environment Laboratory are:
- For Undergraduate Program (S1): (TA 4103) Mining Environment, and (TA 3223) Mine Drainage System,
- Mining Engineering Masters Program, Special Field of Mining Environmental Management (S2) are: (TA5012) Regional Development, (TA6014) Land Management and Reclamation (TA6015) Social Aspects in Mining Management (TA6016) Ecology for Mining Environmental Mining, (TA 5108) Distribution Mine Water Management,. (TA 6119) Industrial Waste Pollution Control, and (TA5218) Mining Environmental Management,
Research conducted at the Mining Environmental Laboratory is funded through DIKTI Research Grants, ITB Research Grants and the results of collaboration with industry. The implementation of the research is outlined in the Final Project / Thesis / Dissertation. Research results are also in the form of presentations and papers published in national and international journals.
The research carried out is mainly related to Acid Mine Water such as identification and characterization, geochemical modeling, static and kinetic testing, modeling the placement of PAF and NAF stockpiles, as well as preventing and controlling mine water. In addition, this laboratory also conducts research in the field of mine drainage and environmental management in the mining, reclamation and post-mining industries as well as Mining AMDAL.
In addition to education and research activities, Seminars and Courses on Acid Mine Water in Indonesia are also held. These seminars and courses have been held 5 times, namely in 1996, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2014.
Research and Education Activities carried out at the Mine Ventilation Laboratory:
Courses related to education and research conducted at the Mine Ventilation Laboratory are: for Undergraduate Program (S1) (TA3123) Mine Ventilation.
Research conducted at the Mine Ventilation Laboratory was funded through DIKTI Research Grants, ITB Research Grants and collaboration with industry. The implementation of the research is outlined through the Final Project. Research results are also in the form of presentations and papers published in national and international journals.
The research carried out is mainly related to modeling of mine ventilation systems, modeling of heat and gas distribution in mine tunnels and modeling and analysis of self-combustion of coal and analysis of gas content in coal.
