Laboratory – Mineral Processing

Short Description
Mineral Processing Laboratory (PBG) is a laboratory used to carry out educational, research and community service activities related to mining activities (minerals and coal) on a laboratory scale such as crushing, grinding, sieve analysis, sieving/screening, settling test, concentration process (gravity, magnetic, electrostatic, heavy medium separation, flotation).

The equipment owned includes jaw crusher, roll crusher, ceramic ball mill, steel ball mill, vibrating sieve hanging, vibrating sieve sitting, Warman cyclo sizer, hydrocyclone, Denver flotation cell, modified Hallimond tube, rocking table, wet magnetic separator , dry magnetic separator, electrostatic separator, humprey spiral, jig, sluice box, amalgamator, feeder, etc.

The Mineral Materials Processing Laboratory (PBG) has a role as a means of supporting academic activities such as practicum for undergraduate & postgraduate students, student research in completing thesis/thesis/dissertation as well as research and community service for teaching staff, especially within the Metallurgical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Mining Engineering and Petroleum, Bandung Institute of Technology.
There are 4 (four) courses with practicum held in this laboratory each year, namely courses:

  • MG2213 – Mineral Processing
  • MG3017 – Processing of Minerals
  • MG3212 – Flotation Concentration
  • MG4211 – Coal Processing and Utilization

Apart from academic activities (education), research and community service, this laboratory is also used for ore and coal preparation for further research such as metal extraction processes (hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy) and others which are carried out in other laboratories.
