Lost circulation is the reduced or total absence of fluid flow up when fluid is pump into well. This loss of fluid may be classified as seepage losses, partial losses, or catastrophic losses, each of which is handled differently. Lost circulation occurs when the drill bit encounters natural fissures, fractures or caverns, and mud flows into the newly available space. This problem is often found in geothermal fields.
